Update of MyWorldWeather on Android Platform

The Hong Kong Observatory launched a new version of the mobile app MyWorldWeather on 20 January 2016 for the Android platform. With the collaboration of the Italian Air Force National Meteorological Service, MyWorldWeather incorporates support for Italian language. It can be downloaded for free at this link.

World Weather Information Service – Korean Version

On 8 Dec 2015, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) announced the launch of the Korean language of the World Weather Information Service (WWIS) website (http://worldweather.wmo.int/kr) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Launch of a New Website for the World Weather Information Service

On 23 June 2014, the Hong Kong Observatory announced the launch of a newly revamped website for the World Weather Information Service which has been in operation for more than a decade. The new website features brand new user interface integrated with latest web technologies including geographical information system to provide a number of user-friendly and new features. Furthermore, the website will be switched automatically to the new mobile version if users visit the website using mobile devices. Please refer to WMO's press release.

Launch of Data Collection or Production for World Weather Information Service

The Hong Kong Observatory announces that the Data Collection or Production Centre (DCPC) for the World Weather Information Service has commenced operation from 15 May 2014. The Centre manages the official weather forecasts and climatological information for worldwide cities supplied by the members of the World Meteorological Organization, and offers subscription service for members to automatically receive such information for onward dissemination to the public and the media. New Version of MyWorldWeather with Additional Language Support and Enhanced User-interface

The Hong Kong Observatory launched a new version of mobile app MyWorldWeather on 19 August 2013. The app currently supports nine languages, viz. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Korean, Portuguese, Polish and Spanish. It is a free mobile app available for iPhone and Android platforms.

Seven language versions of MyWorldWeather app launched

MyWorldWeather, a free mobile application (app) with official weather forecasts across the globe, has introduced new language versions to reach a growing number of people on the move.

Developed by the Hong Kong Observatory on behalf of the World Meteorological Organization, MyWorldWeather is now available on both iPhone and Android platforms in Chinese, English, German, Korean, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish. For details, please refer to the news on the WMO website here.

MyWorldWeather on Trial on Android Platform and with Multiple Language Support

On 17 January 2013, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) launched a trial version of the MyWorldWeather on Android platform, which supports multiple languages including English, Spanish and Polish. The MyWorldWeather on Android platform is a free mobile application downloadable at the following link:

WWIS Website Hitting One Billion Mark

As at April 2012, the cumulative number of page visits of the WWIS website since its operation in 2001 has already exceeded one billion. A mobile version of the WWIS, viz. MyWorldWeather, was launched on the iPhone platform in October 2011. The MyWorldWeather has also become popular and around 39,000 copies have been downloaded. World Weather Information Service - Polish Version

On 13 December 2011, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management - National Research Institute (IMGW-PIB) of the Republic of Poland announced the launch of the Polish-language version of the World Weather Information Service (WWIS) website (http://worldweather.wmo.int/pl) of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).

World Weather Information Service - Russian Version

On 18 March 2011, the Russian Federal Service For Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (ROSHYDROMET) of Russian Federation and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) launched the Russian version of the World Weather Information Service website (http://wwis.meteoinfo.ru/).

World Weather Information Service - Future Version

On 29 Apr 2010, The Hong Kong Observatory launched the future version of the World Weather Information Service (WWIS) website (http://worldweather.wmo.int/globe/) for official city weather forecasts under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organisation. This future version was showcased in the Meteo World Pavilion of the Shanghai World Expo 2010. It gives internet user more intuitive and flexible access to the latest weather forecast. It also features a versatile \"fly-over\" function to any part of the world and a quick search function.

More the better - new members joining the World Weather Information Service

It is encouraging in 2009 as more and more national meteorological services joined the World Weather Information Service (WWIS). After the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and the Afghan Meteorological Authority, the Hydrometeorological Service of Guyana in South America joined the WWIS in December, becoming the 123rd Member of WWIS. Altogether, 10 places of Guyana have been added to the list of cities with official weather forecasts.

World Weather Information Service - Italian Version

On 28 August 2009, the Servizio Meteorologico dell'Aeronautica Militare Italiana, the national weather service of Italy and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) launched the Italian version of the World Weather Information Service website (http://wwis.meteoam.it/).

More the better - new members joining the World Weather Information Service

It is an encouraging start to 2009 as more and more national meteorological services joined the World Weather Information Service (WWIS). In February, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and the Afghan Meteorological Authority participated to become the 120th and 121th Members of WWIS respectively. Altogether, they have added 8 places to the list of cities with official weather forecasts.

World Weather Information Service - German Version

On 23 March 2009, the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), the national weather service of Germany and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) launched the German version of the World Weather Information Service website (http://www.wwis.dwd.de).

World Weather Information Service - French Version

On 31 January 2007, the Meteo France of France and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) launched the French version of the World Weather Information Service website (http://www.meteo.fr/wwis/).

World Weather Information Service - Spanish Version

On 12 September 2006, the National Institute of Meteorology of Spain (INM) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) launched the Spanish version of the World Weather Information Service website (http://wwis.inm.es/).

WWIS includes city map and photo on 30 September 2005

In response to the earlier suggestions from the WWIS participating Members and the public, the WWIS city forecast pages have been enhanced to include a map function for each of the city available to this website (beta version).

Obviously, the city map is intended to let you know the approximate location of the city on the world map. In addition, a city photograph function has also been added to provide visual information about the city. City photographs would be posted on this website in phase or as soon as they are received from Members. Simply click the map or photo icon at the top right corner of the respective city forecast pages would take you there. Have a nice time of a virtual tour to these cities. Comments are welcome.

WWIS starts formal operation on 23 March 2005

The web site on worldwide official weather forecasts, World Weather Information Service (WWIS), starts formal operation today (23 March 2005) after a trial period of over two years.

At the 13th Session of the Commission for Basic Systems at St. Petersburg, 23 February - 3 March 2005, the Commission approved to turn the pilot project into an operational component of the Public Weather Services Programme of WMO and that the current host Members, viz. China; Hong Kong, China; Macao, China; and Oman, would continue to maintain the Chinese, English, Portuguese and Arabic versions of the WWIS web site respectively.
