Observing clouds

Performance Criterion Description:

The observer can accurately evaluate cloud type, amount, opacity, height and stage of development.

Scenario:       

During an assessment period the observer is asked to apply knowledge and skill in order to assess clouds.

Evidence:

The observer must use appropriate knowledge, techniques and instrumentation to accurately assess

• cloud type
• amount and opacity
• height of bases and tops
• stage of development
• impact of specific cloud elements on aviation (CB or ACSL developing over ridges)        
• special reports at appropriate threshold value changes to cloud base height and cloud amount
