Observer Performance Criterion 1

Analyse and describe the weather situation.

Performance Criterion Description:

The observer analyses the local weather conditions, considering all factors to be included in each report.

Scenario:       

During the assessment period the observer is presented with various situations typical to his area of responsibility. The observer must use his meteorological knowledge to assess the situation and prepare to observe and record specific parameters.     

Evidence:

The observer performs comprehensive analysis designed to sustain situational awareness. 

• examines short term trends in local weather parameters
• studies other regional observations to determine surrounding situation
• uses upper air charts pattern to determine synoptic flow direction
• examines aeronautical and other forecasts (public, marine, agricultural, etc.)
