Warnings of severe turbulence

Performance Criterion Description:

The forecaster must apply meteorological knowledge and skill in forecasting areas of severe turbulence.

Scenario:       

The forecaster is asked to assess potential for turbulence within the area of responsibility and issue the appropriate warnings for severe turbulence.   

Evidence:

The forecaster must apply the appropriate forecasting techniques utilizing

• conceptual models
• local climatology
• vertical stability
• tropopause and jetstream analysis
• numerical and statistical output
• interpretation of satellite data
• boundary layer evolution
• diurnal changes

in order to complete a thorough assessment and to identify areas of severe turbulence.
