Forecasting obstructions to vision

Performance Criterion Description:

The forecaster must apply meteorological knowledge and skill in forecasting obstructions to visibility such as dust, haze, blowing snow etc. 

Scenario:       

During an assessment period the forecaster is asked to forecast obstructions to visibility for an area of responsibility. 

Evidence:

The forecaster must apply the appropriate forecasting techniques for smoke, haze, blowing snow, sand or dust utilizing

• conceptual models
• interpret remote sensing data
• boundary layer evolution
• incorporate wind forecasts
• consider local surface conditions
• local climatology
• numerical and statistical output
