Forecast QNH

Performance Criterion Description:

The forecaster must apply meteorological knowledge and skill in forecasting QNH

Scenario:       

During an assessment period the forecaster is asked to apply the existing and known procedures and techniques to forecast the QNH

Evidence:

The forecaster must use existing and known procedures and techniques to forecast QNH including minima and maxima, and with appropriate subdivisions across areas.

The forecaster applies the appropriate forecasting techniques utilizing

• conceptual models
• knowledge of terrain impacts
• climatology
• numerical and empirical techniques and their biases

in order to

• complete a thorough assessment current QNH across an area or at a location
• forecast QNH over an area with appropriate subdivisions and taking into account boundaries between different areas of responsibility.

• Forecast QNH temporally at a location as required.
