Monitoring weather parameters

Performance Criterion Description:

The forecaster must monitor incoming data in order to be aware of the current conditions and changes occurring within the forecast region.

Scenario:       

Throughout an assessment period the forecaster is asked to monitor weather conditions representative of those that may be experienced within his area of responsibility.

Evidence:

The forecaster must monitor incoming meteorological data as evidenced by:

• routinely retrieves and reviews scheduled bulletins (METAR, synoptic, upper air, etc.)
• maintains a watch for the arrival of unscheduled data (SPECI, pirep, etc.)
• routinely retrieves and reviews remote sensed data (satellite, radar, lightning, etc.)
• maintains a watch for non standard data (seismological, hydrology, SST, snow/ice cover, volcanic ash, TC etc.)
• notes other relevant information
• timely retrieval and review
